چکیده
Understanding crop response to manipulations in source (number of leaves) and sink (panicle) during the growing season provides useful information develop breeding strategies. In present study, we assessed how source-sink manipulation can affect sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) yield its components—grain number grain weight (including filling dynamics)—for hybrids released past 60 years. The field experiment was conducted 2021 Wamego, KS (US), testing six commercially available between 1963 2020. Grain significantly decreased from 28 21 mg defoliation treatments among over time; reached a maximum value 34 when panicles were halved (P < 0.05). For control scenario, consistently increased time 0.01). When applied, there reduction 33 bu/a for 39 panicle halving 0.001). Regarding per unit area, trend similar across 0.1) but with 1600 grains on average 0.001) relative both scenarios. Over treatments, no significant change rate. However, duration documented defoliated plants, greater decrease time.

متن کاملHistorical Synthesis-Analysis of Changes in Grain Nitrogen Dynamics in Sorghum
Unraveling the complexity underpinning nitrogen (N) use efficiency (NUE) can be physiologically approached via examining grain N sources and N internal efficiency (NIE) (yield to plant N content ratio). The main objective of this original research paper is to document and understand sorghum NUE and physiological mechanisms related to grain N dynamics. The study of different grain N sources, her...
متن کاملBiochemical characterization of the major sorghum grain peroxidase.
The major cationic peroxidase in sorghum grain (SPC4) , which is ubiquitously present in all sorghum varieties was purified to apparent homogeneity, and found to be a highly basic protein (pI approximately 11). MS analysis showed that SPC4 consists of two glycoforms with molecular masses of 34,227 and 35,629 Da and it contains a type-b heme. Chemical deglycosylation allowed to estimate sugar co...
متن کاملPhysical Chemical Characterization of Grain Sorghum Prolamine Fractions and Components
T he proximate composition and proteins of three American grain sorghum hybrids were previously described (Jones and Beckwith, 1970). We noted that the prolamine class of protein from these hybrids readily formed gels in alcohol-water systems, as well as in such solvents as dimethyl sulfoxide and 8 M urea solutions. In the alcohol-water system the addition of 1.5 M guanidine hydrochloride (GHCI...
متن کاملIdentification and Characterization of microRNAs during Maize Grain Filling
The grain filling rate is closely associated with final grain yield of maize during the period of maize grain filling. To identify the key microRNAs (miRNAs) and miRNA-dependent gene regulation networks of grain filling in maize, a deep-sequencing technique was used to research the dynamic expression patterns of miRNAs at four distinct developmental grain filling stages in Zhengdan 958, which i...
